Data notes. Choose an academic year and an optional pupil cohort. Cohort comparisons use published DfE group rows where available. 2024/25 and 2025/26 KS2 prior-attainment percentages are estimates based on 2022/23 and 2023/24 KS4 cohorts; 2022/23 and 2023/24 show actual published KS2 prior-attainment groups. Progress 8 is unavailable for 2024/25 and 2025/26. 2025/26 results are provisional.

FAIR SCHOOLS GUIDE

Explain terms

A plain-English guide to the measures in this report and how DfE calculates them.

Attainment 8 (A8)
An average GCSE and approved qualification score across up to eight slots: English and maths are double weighted, with three EBacc slots and three open slots.
Open slots (Attainment 8)
The final three Attainment 8 slots use the highest point scores from other eligible qualifications. They can include further GCSEs, including EBacc subjects, and DfE-approved non-GCSE qualifications.
English Baccalaureate (EBacc)
A group of subjects, not a qualification: English, maths, science, a language, and history or geography. Attainment 8 uses eligible EBacc subjects in up to three of its slots.
GCSE grades 7–9
The share of reported GCSE grade entries awarded 7, 8 or 9. The site counts grade entries, not pupils; double-award GCSEs count as two grades. Absent, pending and suppressed entries are excluded.
Progress 8 (P8)
Compares pupils’ Attainment 8 results with the national average for pupils with similar KS2 starting scores. A positive score means more progress than that benchmark; zero is around average. DfE has no P8 figures for 2024/25 or 2025/26.
Grade 5+ / 7+ in English and maths
The percentage of pupils who reached at least that grade in both English and maths. For English, a qualifying result in either Language or Literature is enough.
Ofsted Parent View
Parents’ survey responses. “Child happy” is the percentage answering Strongly agree or Agree to “My child is happy at this school”; “recommend” is the percentage answering Yes to recommending the school. Ofsted changed the survey questions on 10 November 2025. The site shows the latest published result, using an older survey year from 2021 onward only when no newer result is published. Ofsted requires at least 10 responses in a survey year. These are parent responses, not pupil answers, and are not broken down by the KS4 cohort filter.
Ofsted report-card grades
From 10 November 2025, Ofsted replaced the single overall inspection judgement with separate grades for areas of a school’s work. Each area uses five grades: Exceptional, Strong standard, Expected standard, Needs attention or Urgent improvement. The colours in the table are a quick key; read the linked report card for Ofsted’s evidence and explanation. The new grades are not directly comparable with the previous framework’s judgements.
Inclusion
How well the school identifies and meets pupils’ needs, removes barriers to learning and gives pupils the support they need to take part and succeed.
Curriculum and teaching
Whether the school’s planned curriculum is ambitious and well organised, and whether teaching helps pupils learn and remember it.
Achievement
What pupils know and can do, including how well they learn the curriculum and the outcomes they achieve. Ofsted considers pupils’ starting points and needs when evaluating achievement.
Attendance and behaviour
How regularly pupils attend, how well the school supports good attendance, and whether behaviour helps pupils learn and feel safe.
Personal development and wellbeing
How the school supports pupils’ wider development, including character, relationships, health, preparation for life beyond school and their wellbeing.
Leadership and governance
How effectively leaders and governors set direction, improve the school, support staff and make sure pupils receive a good education.
Safeguarding status
Ofsted reports safeguarding separately from the six graded areas. “Met” means the school meets Ofsted’s safeguarding standards; “Not met” means it does not. The table uses green and red circles for these two outcomes.
Ofsted inspection / publication date
The inspection date is when inspectors carried out the inspection; the publication date is when Ofsted published the report card. The table uses the latest available renewed-framework report card for each school.
More than one foreign language
The percentage of the KS4 cohort entered for more than one modern foreign language GCSE.
Average GCSEs taken
The average number of GCSE entries per pupil in the KS4 cohort.
Average KS4 qualification entries
The average number of approved KS4 qualification entries per pupil, including GCSE and eligible non-GCSE qualifications.
Disadvantaged pupils
The percentage of the KS4 cohort classed as disadvantaged by DfE: eligible for free school meals in the previous six years, looked after for at least one day, or previously adopted from care.
KS2 prior attainment
A pupil’s starting point, based on the average of their KS2 English reading and maths scaled scores. Low is below 100; middle is 100 to below 110; high is 110 or above. The 2025/26 school shares are labelled estimates based on the mean of 2022/23 and 2023/24 cohort shares.
Cohort and sex filters
A cohort is a pupil group such as disadvantaged, first language or KS2 prior attainment. Sex columns compare all pupils, boys or girls where published. DfE does not publish every measure for every group.
England state-funded average
The published England benchmark. Where a school-level grade 7–9 figure is calculated from entries, the England percentage is weighted using England’s reported grade entries.
N/A
No numeric figure is available in the DfE source for that school, year, measure or selected cohort. It does not mean zero.
